Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-04

The Group Chat is operated by The Group Chat LLC, a Florida limited liability company (“we”, “us”). This Privacy Policy describes what we collect, what we do with it, and what we don’t.

We try to keep this short and direct. If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@thegroupchat.app and we’ll explain.

What we collect

Almost nothing.

  • Your input. When you paste a text or upload a screenshot into The Group Chat, we send that input to our AI model provider so it can generate verdicts. We do not store the input you provide on our servers. After your verdicts are returned, the input is gone from our systems.
  • Your email. If you upgrade to a paid plan, we collect your email address so we can send you a magic link to access the paid tier. We do not store passwords because we don’t use passwords.
  • Payment metadata. When you pay, our payment processor handles your transaction. We do not see or store your card details. We see only the metadata the processor returns to us, such as your subscription status, customer ID, and the email associated with your subscription.
  • Anonymous usage statistics. We track aggregate usage (how many verdicts are generated, traffic patterns, error rates) for product improvement and abuse prevention. This information is not associated with identifying details.

What we don’t collect

  • We do not require you to create an account.
  • We do not store the texts, screenshots, or other content you paste.
  • We do not sell your data to anyone.
  • We do not track you across other websites.
  • We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. The Group Chat is for users 18 and older.

Cookies and local storage

We use your browser’s local storage to track your weekly free-verdict quota and to remember your paid status if you have one. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted back to us as a tracking mechanism. We do not use third-party advertising or behavioral-tracking cookies.

Categories of third-party processors

We rely on the following categories of service providers. Each operates under its own privacy policy and processes only the data necessary to provide its service to us:

  • AI model provider— generates verdicts from your input
  • Payment processor— handles subscription billing
  • Hosting provider— delivers the website to your browser
  • Transactional email provider— sends magic-link login emails to paid users
  • Privacy-respecting analytics provider— collects anonymous usage statistics

We do not name specific vendors in this policy by design. If you have a specific question about which providers we use, email us at hello@thegroupchat.app and we’ll respond.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Ask what data we have about you (very little, by design)
  • Ask us to delete your paid account and associated email
  • Cancel your subscription at any time
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@thegroupchat.app. We respond within 30 days.

If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK-GDPR, or CCPA respectively. The substance of your rights is reflected above.

International users

The Group Chat is operated from the United States. If you use the service from outside the U.S., your data is processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate.

Data security

We use industry-standard practices to protect the limited data we hold. We cannot guarantee perfect security; nobody honest can. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you within the window required by applicable law.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date at the top. For substantive changes (not formatting fixes), we may also notify paid users via the email on file.

Safety screening

We screen inputs for indicators of crisis, self-harm, threats of violence, and content involving minors. When detected, we display crisis resources or decline to generate verdicts rather than producing AI output. We do not store flagged inputs differently than other inputs (we don’t store any inputs). We do not contact authorities or third parties based on input content. These mechanisms are best-effort and not a substitute for emergency services. If you are in crisis, please use the resources below or call your local emergency number.

If you are in immediate danger or distress, please contact:

  • 988— U.S. Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text)
  • 911— U.S. emergency services
  • Crisis Text Line— Text HOME to 741741
  • International Association for Suicide Prevention iasp.info/resources/Crisis_Centres for resources outside the U.S.
